Doll Pants Story

Simple Knowledge

I had been ‘refine’ my pants sewing skill. I sew some pants for BJD then I revised the order of sewing procedure.

One of them was sewing/attaching the waist band. I usually used marking on pants body, instead of marking on waist band as the sew-benchmark. Yet, the result was always unsatisfying. The problem is always on the edge of waist band; the width is always larger. You can zoom this picture below. The fitting is very good but the appearance of wider edges annoys my eyes.

I then changed the order by using marking on waist band as the benchmark. It became way much better. Sometimes we have to change our sewing order or procedure in order to get a good result. It’s a bit difficult to explain in writing.

Besides that, I also tried sewing hipster. It was really good. Anyway, if the fabric is denim or a bit thick, I usually use cotton for  inside waist-band part so the waist is not too bulky. With even doll size scale, a bit thickness can create not-good effect. There are denim-like fabrics but it’s actually as thin as common cotton. It’s good for doll pants, too.

As for button, I use snapped button which is set by hammering it on to waist band. So far, I can do that for 9mm button size, but for 8mm and less than that, it is difficult. It’s a combination of the quality of the button itself and the tools is a bit not compatible. It is said for 8mm, yes. Yet, in practice, it seems doesn’t fit at all. Even before hammering, I then always try to match the button parts (the “snapped” parts); It still does not fit in. 😭😭. I’m a bit curious about this button size. I just ordered a new setter. I hope, it will work.
